We have a weekly Sunday morning service, with the space hired by outside bodies weekly/monthly."Warm Space" has been recently introduced where for no charge a hot drink, refreshments, a chat or a quiet space can be enjoyed whilst keeping warm.  It is the only place in the village for local people wanting baptisms, weddings and funerals. Priorities for the church in the coming years:

  • to build our membership which will support Evangelism
  • to understand and meet local community needs enabling Service
  • to maximise use of the facilities enabling Service, Worship and Learning
  • to improve access thus enabling Worship, Evangelism and Learning.

Cleadon Methodist Church

8 Sunderland Road, Cleadon, Sunderland SR6 7UT

We are a small friendly church with a big heart!!  Together we aim to demonstrate the love of God in all that we do and to all those we meet. Our Toddler group is well known for friendships made between the parents as well as the children!

Our Messy Church buzzes with excitement and the Love of God is shared through activities and stories. At the other end of the age group, our coffee mornings are alive with friendship and fun!

We have regular worshippers and the church is slowly recovering from the pandemic. There is a friendly atmosphere and refreshments are available following the service when fellowship may be continued. We are fortunate to have two house groups where many subjects are discussed. Our pastoral visitors keep in touch with those who are unable to attend church and written services are distributed to those who are housebound.

We like to think that we are serving our community to the best of our ability. As long as we have the strength to serve, we will continue with the knowledge that God is with us in every step we take! We joined with our friends from Whitburn and East Boldon during August to host "Holiday at Home". Four days when the church offered food, fun and friendship for elderly people who often feel lonely during the long holiday period. The exciting programme was very much enjoyed by the helpers and the many guests.

We hope and pray we are seen to be demonstrating the love of God in all that we do. Remembering Jesus words "Love thy Neighbour".

East Boldon Methodist Church

East Boldon exists at the heart of the community to share the love of God with everyone and to deepen faith in Christ by providing an open door of love and friendship for all. Amongst our many groups we hold fortnightly coffee mornings and host and support through Churches Together a"Happy at Home Happy Hub" in our community hall. This enables the more mature members of our community to gather, lunch and participate in various activities.

Our usual Sunday service is traditional, with a blend of modern and traditional songs. We have Local Arrangement services which provides an opportunity to explore different styles of worship such as Cafe Worship, YouTube service and shown childrens videos based on the lectionary.

We extend a warm welcome to any person entering our building and operate under the slogan "Church and Community Working Together" Our hall is a valued resource for families, groups or individuals. Our section of churches is committed to working closely together. We already meet as a house group and are planning more work together by sharing our skills in activities such as Holiday at Home and Messy Church. We also distribute "Worship at Home " sheets which began during lockdown and continue to distribute these to those who are unable to attend worship in person.

The church is represented in any village activity and we open for refreshments and childrens activities. Our wayside pulpit is changed regularly to reflect the time of   year. Our Easter Cross proclaims to the village and passers by that "Christ is Risen and that we are a Christian presence within the village.

In prayer, discernment and reflection will will go forward inconfidence that we are in tune with God's will for us.
